At the heart of the Department of Global Studies is a strong commitment to personalized, student-centered advising. From the moment students declare a major or minor in one of our programs, they are paired with a dedicated faculty advisor who guides them throughout their academic journey. Our faculty are not only experts in their fields—they are mentors who take the time to get to know their students as individuals. Advising conversations go beyond the transcript to consider a student’s interests, values, and aspirations. Because we are a small department, students receive attentive and consistent guidance throughout their four years, allowing for a deep, ongoing dialogue between advisor and student. Whether navigating double majors, planning for graduate school, or exploring professional pathways, students can count on thoughtful support from someone who knows them well.
As a department that offers courses in six languages—Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish—we also offer language placement for students seeking to meet curricular language requirements, test or place out of these language requirements, or expand their knowledge of a new language.
